RODNEY HARDERS ROCKETS TO FIRST FEATURE WIN

Rodney Harders has shown good form at recent meetings and put it all together at the Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on Good Friday night with a late race pass to claim his maiden feature win.

Even though the car count was low the racing was close and fast. Rodney started on the front row of the 15 lap feature beside his cousin Michael Harders who took control of the race from the outset.  Rodney was soon under threat from Brock Dean but held off this challenge and set out after the leader.  With just 2 laps remaining he charged inside Michael in turn 1 held his line and headed towards the chequered flag.  He was jubilant in Victory Lane as it was his first time on the podium and it was the top step.  Michael Harders and Brock Dean were next home.

Brock Dean led the opening laps of the first heat until the rotor button came adrift and he had to be content to watch Rodney Harders (Eagle/Eagle) take the win. After racing interstate the last couple of weeks Michael Harders (Auto Upgrade KRE Eagle/Spike) was back home and took out the second qualifier from Brendan Palmer (EastLinkAir Breka/Esslinger) and Lance Towns (i Custom Colours Phone Repairs Breka/Gaerte).  Unfortunately that would end Palmer’s night when a bad oil leak was detected after the race.  Brock Dean (Breka/Gaerte) came back to take out the last heat ahead of Scott Wilson (Western Landscape Supplies Boss/Stanton SR ll) and Brad Young (Federal Tyres Spike/Gaerte).  Young Jack Bell drove the family Breka/Mopar and after some problems in the heats made the end in the main.  Corey Stothard drove the former Neale Tobin Stealth/Brayton Gaerte but with the car being out of action for a couple of seasons had some gremlins to overcome.

The next meeting for the QSRA will be Saturday April 9 at the Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway for the penultimate round of the 2015-16 Polar Ice Midget Series with double points on offer for the night.

Matt Hefford raced in Tasmania over Easter for the first ‘official’ race meeting for speedcars in the Apple Isle. On Good Friday night he jumped a wheel and rolled his car and was taken to hospital for a check over.  Doug Cavell had the car ready for Saturday night and Matt went on to take out the feature race and create a piece of speedway history.

Also Anthony Chaffey again ran the Easter Trail in the south with the Procam/Jaxxon Wraps team finishing 2nd overall after a Feature win on the second night of the weekend
